Just a reminder that the school has organized a fundraiser called "Money in a Bag." We are asking for donations of gently used items such as clothes, linens, coats, jackets, bedding, belts, shoes, backpacks, and purses. These items will be given to the Canadian Diabetes Association and in return, our school  will receive some money per bag.  Please bring your donations in regular black garbage bags (approx 26" x 36") to the school entrance this Monday, April 24. Thank you for your support!

Welcome back!
I hope you all had a restful Spring Break!

Just a few things to bring to your attention....

It is Andrea's birthday tomorrow and the Busto family is providing a pizza lunch and cupcakes for our class in order to celebrate it.  If your child does not want to have pizza, please make sure s/he has a lunch tomorrow.  If your child has ordered hot lunch and wants pizza instead, I will send home his/her hot lunch order.

As I mentioned in a previous post, our class is responsible for organizing a whole school prayer service on Holy Thursday (April 13).  I still have to confirm the time with Mr. Yanko, however, this year's prayer services and assemblies have usually been at 9:15am. Again, I will have to confirm this with Mr. Yanko and will then let you know for sure.

Today your child brought home his/her prayer service part to practice at home.  Please encourage your child to practice every day to build up their fluency and confidence.  These parts do no need to be memorized.

We have started the Multiplication and Division unit in Math and have also started a new Science unit on Biodiversity.  The students seem excited and interested to learn about both of these!

Thank you again for all your help.

Homework:

Read for 20 minutes.
Wear gym strip to school tomorrow.
Practice Prayer Service part.
Return Report Card Cover and envelope tomorrow.

Today we performed our class poem, Snowmen At Night, at the Speech Arts Festival Regionals.  I am pleased to share with you that our class received silver for our performance!  I am so proud of them!  They worked so hard!  Thank you to all of you, too, who supported your children as they prepared for the Festival!

Just a few things that are coming up...

This Friday's Dress Up Day theme is "St. Patrick's Day."  Students are asked to bring in $1/$2 if they choose to participate.

As you know, our class won the "Movie & Popcorn" Walkathon prize this year.  The students will be watching the movie they chose on Thursday afternoon.

This Friday students will be dismissed at 12:15pm.  This is the last day before Spring Break.  School reopens on Monday, March 27.

The Grade 3 Class is responsible for leading a school-wide prayer service that is scheduled for Holy Thursday (April 13).  We will begin preparing for this when we return from Spring Break.

We performed our poem, Snowmen At Night, at our school's Speech Arts Festival, held on Wednesday, Feb 15.  On Thursday, we learned that our class had been chosen, along with the Grade One Class, to move on to the Regionals!  Our class is so excited!  Members of our class were also chosen to move on the the Individuals portion of the Regionals.  We are so proud of them! Please watch for letters coming home with the details for these two events.  Thank you, again, for all your support!

This coming week we have a tennis instructor coming to the school to teach the students tennis skills.  These lessons will take place each day next week and so students will need their gym strips at school each day. Please have them wear their gym strips to school on Monday and Tuesday morning as we are scheduled to have our tennis lessons first thing those mornings.

I can't believe it is almost February!  The students are almost finished their Landform Projects.  They have really enjoyed creating and designing their models.  I have loved watching the creative process unfold!

Just a friendly reminder that the Grandparents' Tea is this Friday, February 3 from 10am to 11am.  To those of you who signed up as volunteers...thank you so much! We appreciate it!  For those of you who said you would send in food for the occasion, please send it in either Thursday, February 2 or Friday, February 3 before school starts.  You can bring it to the Grade 3 classroom.

A note went home today letting you know that the Davies' Family will be providing the class with a pizza lunch to celebrate Julia's birthday.  If your child will be having pizza, please remember to still pack a morning recess snack.  If your child ordered hot lunch, I will send it home with them.
