Today we performed our class poem, Snowmen At Night, at the Speech Arts Festival Regionals.  I am pleased to share with you that our class received silver for our performance!  I am so proud of them!  They worked so hard!  Thank you to all of you, too, who supported your children as they prepared for the Festival!

Just a few things that are coming up...

This Friday's Dress Up Day theme is "St. Patrick's Day."  Students are asked to bring in $1/$2 if they choose to participate.

As you know, our class won the "Movie & Popcorn" Walkathon prize this year.  The students will be watching the movie they chose on Thursday afternoon.

This Friday students will be dismissed at 12:15pm.  This is the last day before Spring Break.  School reopens on Monday, March 27.

The Grade 3 Class is responsible for leading a school-wide prayer service that is scheduled for Holy Thursday (April 13).  We will begin preparing for this when we return from Spring Break.

We performed our poem, Snowmen At Night, at our school's Speech Arts Festival, held on Wednesday, Feb 15.  On Thursday, we learned that our class had been chosen, along with the Grade One Class, to move on to the Regionals!  Our class is so excited!  Members of our class were also chosen to move on the the Individuals portion of the Regionals.  We are so proud of them! Please watch for letters coming home with the details for these two events.  Thank you, again, for all your support!

This coming week we have a tennis instructor coming to the school to teach the students tennis skills.  These lessons will take place each day next week and so students will need their gym strips at school each day. Please have them wear their gym strips to school on Monday and Tuesday morning as we are scheduled to have our tennis lessons first thing those mornings.

I can't believe it is almost February!  The students are almost finished their Landform Projects.  They have really enjoyed creating and designing their models.  I have loved watching the creative process unfold!

Just a friendly reminder that the Grandparents' Tea is this Friday, February 3 from 10am to 11am.  To those of you who signed up as volunteers...thank you so much! We appreciate it!  For those of you who said you would send in food for the occasion, please send it in either Thursday, February 2 or Friday, February 3 before school starts.  You can bring it to the Grade 3 classroom.

A note went home today letting you know that the Davies' Family will be providing the class with a pizza lunch to celebrate Julia's birthday.  If your child will be having pizza, please remember to still pack a morning recess snack.  If your child ordered hot lunch, I will send it home with them.

We continue to be very busy in Grade 3!  We are practicing our songs for the Grandparents' Tea. The students should have brought home copies of each song to practice at home.  Today they brought home a letter with more details about the Grandparents' Tea.  It is on February 3 and we are asking for food donations (please see the list) and for parent volunteers.  Thank you in advance for your support!

We are also busy practicing our Class Poem for the Speech Arts Festival.  Students should have brought home a copy of this as well to work on memorizing it.

Today I sent home a letter about a Science project that students will be working on during class time. Your child will need help gathering the supplies s/he need to successfully complete his/her 3D landform model.  I am asking that materials be brought in for Monday, January 23. Please read through the letter and don't hesitate to contact me if you have any questions.

We are very busy in Grade 3!
We are preparing for the Grandparents Tea that will take place in early February.  As soon as the date has been confirmed I will let all of you know.  Our class will be singing for the grandparents that day. Yesterday the students took home the words for one of the songs they will be singing.  Included on that sheet were the links to the youtube videos for the song (one with lyrics and one instrumental version).  Please encourage your child to practice so that we will sound the best we can be!  In case you need those links, here they are:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n2rZkvilaE0  (with lyrics)

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1TOYCkxAztw  (instrumental)

The second event we are preparing for is the Speech Arts Festival.  Students are required to prepare at least one selection from the options available to present at our Classroom Audition, but they may prepare more than one if they wish.  Students took home a Speech Arts Festival hand out yesterday. Please refer to it when helping your child choose their selection(s) and for festival details. We will also be preparing a poem as a class to present at the School Speech Arts Festival.  This selection must be memorized.  Students have brought home our class poem today and I ask that you please help your child memorize it.

Our Classroom Speech Arts Audition will be held on February 9 and the School Speech Arts Festival will be held on February 15.

If you should have any questions, please call me at the school (604-261-4043) or email me at dmartin@stanthonyofpaduaschool.ca.
